Stress-Free Veterinary Care for Your Pet with Mobile Vet Services

Mobile vet services bring your veterinarian right to your doorstep. Picture this: your vet arrives at your doorstep and finishes your pet’s care shortly after. Compare that to the hour-long process of catching your pet, driving to the clinic, waiting, and completing the visit – the time saved is impressive.

Whether you have a nervous cat who doesn’t like the carrier or a dog who dislikes the clinic, the familiar setting of your home makes the entire process smoother. In this blog, we’ll look closer at the advantages of mobile vet services in providing a more comfortable and stress-free experience for you and your pet.

Advantages of Mobile Vet Visits

Many pets do not do well coming to the vet. They get put in a new environment with new smells, sights, and sounds, which can be overwhelming and provide an unpleasant experience for them. But it doesn’t have to be that way with mobile vet services.

There are numerous advantages to mobile vet services for your pet. They include, but are not limited to:

  • Saving time. The veterinarian arrives at your house and completes your pet’s care in about fifteen minutes compared to the average hour-long process of wrangling your pet into its carrier, driving to the clinic, waiting, and being seen.
  • Providing a stress-free and fear-free experience by caring for your pet in the comfort of their home, where they are surrounded by what they’re familiar with, like the people and smells they know.
  • Reducing the stress of traveling with your pet to the clinic for pets that are challenging to get in their carriers or get stressed on the car ride.
  • Being beneficial for elderly pets, pets with mobility issues or special needs.
  • Reducing the need for sedation or medication for those pets who get anxious and stressed at the vet.
  • Giving your veterinarian valuable insight into the environment where your pet lives.

Mobile vet visits may not work out for every pet or in every pet owner’s situation. Regardless of whether you can take advantage of mobile pet visits with us at Buddy’s Vets or your local veterinarian, this article from AAHA has some great tips on if you do bring your pet to the clinic, how to help your pet manage stress.

Behind the Scenes of Mobile Vet Visits with Dr. Becky

Dr. Becky saw a 22-year-old cat for a home visit whose owners had many challenges getting them to the clinic due to their advanced age, frailty, and health issues. The cat’s stress caused accidents during the car ride, making the owner afraid to put it in the car. During the home visit, Dr. Becky addressed the cat’s needs, including an examination, nail trimming, blood work, mat clipping, and an adjustment to pain medication.

While this may sound short and sweet and simple, a lot happens behind the scenes with mobile vet visits. At Buddy’s Vets, it starts with scheduling. A day or so before the appointment, we’ll call to get a thorough history, which allows us to be prepared and know what we need to bring to the visit ahead of time.

On the day of the visit, we gather what we’ll need. We present the owners with a treatment plan, which goes over all the care we would like to provide for their pet. We then decide what services in the treatment plan to give that day.

Our mobile vet visits are a mini-clinic on wheels. We bring all the necessary equipment, including nail trimmers, blood and fecal sampling tools, ear cleaning supplies, a stethoscope, clippers, and a blood pressure machine. We also carry a portable mini-scale that ensures accurate measurements for cats and small dogs during our visits.

Mobile Vet Visit Success

Mobile vet services provide immense value for many pets, especially Thor, who didn’t enjoy going to the vet. Thor’s owner, Bill M., says this about Buddy’s mobile vet visits:

“I have a very smart house cat. I used to be able to put out the carrier days in advance of a vet trip for an annual exam. No problem, put a few treats around and in it. Then wait for Thor to jump in. Sounds great, but Thor got wise. It became more and more difficult to wrangle Thor into the carrier.”

And then he read that Buddy’s Vets does house calls.

“Once here they had a snack to draw Thor over. Thor really is friendly with people and will check new people out. The snack helped too. They were able to hold her for a bit and give the necessary immunizations. Thor was given a good bill of health. Shortly they departed and Thor was not fazed.”

Mobile vet visits provide your pet with stress-free veterinary care and put your pet at ease.

Besides providing value to pets who aren’t keen on going to the vet, mobile vet visits are also great for multi-pet households. One of those multi-pet households says this about mobile vet visits with Dr. Becky:

“I have a MENAGERIE of pets (3 kitties and the Rudy dog)! Dr Becky makes my life so much easier by coming to my house for in-home vaccinations and well checks.”
